A new dawn for the European Parking Association

Umbrella organisation for European parking sector to be transformed with new strategy

Founded in 1983, the European Parking Association, (EPA) is the umbrella organisation for the European parking sector. It is based in Cologne. Its national association and commercial members represent the private companies and public bodies that operate and manage on and off-street parking facilities and related services in the UK and throughout mainland Europe.

In 2022, EPA’s members recognised that the association needed to evolve and be more agile and proactive. At the AGM in 2022, the members approved a proposal to move the EPA to Brussels, to be closer to the EU Commission and other important entities and to incorporate it as an international not-for-profit organisation under Belgian law. They also approved the appointment of a full-time Executive Director and support staff to deliver an action plan focused on sustainable lobbying and research activities which align with the evolving interests of the European parking sector.

A Governance working group was established to guide the transformation of the EPA into the new EPA 2.0. The new structure will enable the association to be more commercially minded in its activities and fundraising than is presently possible under German law.

At this year’s AGM, held on 15th September in Brussels, British Parking Association (BPA) nominees Nigel Williams and Manny Rasores were unanimously reelected as EPA President and Policy & Strategy Committee Member respectively. The BPA also became a founding member of the new EPA organisation.

Andrew Pester, BPA Chief Executive said “Our Association continues to build its engagement with the international parking association community to share best practice, collaborate and much more. Consequently, we are delighted to be a founding member of the new EPA 2.0. This is a historic step for the EPA and I congratulate Nigel Williams and Manny Rasores on their appointments.”

Both the BPA and EPA continue to strongly support the development of the Alliance Parking Data Standards (APDS). Formed in 2018, as a not for profit collaboration between the BPA, EPA and the International Parking & Mobility Institute, the APDS delivers a global parking data standard and is now focused on promoting its widespread adoption.
