Newarke Street and Haymarket car parks crowned with Park Mark

Leicester City Council receives Park Mark award having demonstrated the highest standards across their operations.

Park Mark is the accredited logo of the Safer Parking Scheme, which is given to parking facilities that have achieved the requirements of a risk assessment conducted by the Police and the British Parking Association.  Their assessments include management and maintenance of the facility, checking that there are appropriate levels of surveillance, lighting, signage and cleanliness.  All these are known to reduce the opportunity for crime and thus create a safer environment for the motorist and their vehicle.

Car parks with the Park Mark® award can use signage featuring the distinctive Park Mark® tick, so that drivers know exactly where to go for safe parking. Facilities that have received this award have seen a drop in vehicle-related crime of over 80%.

Councillor Adam Clarke said:  "A lot of hard work has gone into ensuring our car parks are clean, welcoming places which people feel safe using, so I’m very pleased that Haymarket and Newarke Street have both been awarded the Park Mark Award.  We are already working towards achieving this standard for all our car parks, so people using them can be sure they all meet the same high standards."

Matt Robinson BPA Area Manager said: “I am delighted that Leicester City Council has achieved the Park Mark award for Newarke Street & Haymarket Car Parks, demonstrating their hard work and commitment to provide a safe environment for users.”

Leicestershire Designing Out Crime Officer, Steve Day said, "I can confirm the Leicester City Council sites were well run and in good order with all signage and markings clearly visible. These sites will continue to provide safe and effective parking for residents and visitors to Leicester. Park Mark and Leicestershire Police are pleased to support these sites as part of their British Parking Association schemes and hope to continue with other similar sites across Leicester."
