Park Mark Award for Tendring District Council

Six of the best! Tendring Car Parks Receive Top Safety Awards

Awards recognise the continued good maintenance and quality of the Council's parking facilities.

Park Mark is the accredited logo of the Safer Parking Scheme, which is given to parking facilities that have achieved the requirements of a risk assessment conducted by the Police and the British Parking Association.  Their assessments include management and maintenance of the facility, checking that there are appropriate levels of surveillance, lighting, signage and cleanliness.  All these are known to reduce the opportunity for crime and thus create a safer environment for the motorist and their vehicle.

Car parks with the Park Mark® award can use signage featuring the distinctive Park Mark® tick, so that drivers know exactly where to go for safe parking. Facilities that have received this award have seen a drop in vehicle-related crime of over 80%.

At Tendring District Council, the car parks which have received the award in the 2023 phase two review are Victoria Place, Brightlingsea; Hazlemere Road, Holland-on-Sea; and the High Street, Wellesley Road, Alton Park Road and Martello car parks in Clacton. It follows nine other council car parks which received the award earlier this year.

Mark Stephenson, TDC Leader, said "These awards are recognition of the continued good maintenance and quality of the facilities. We have held this award for many years now, and maintaining that level of quality is no mean feat,”

Cllr Stephenson continued. “By having these awards drivers can be safe in our car parks, which are relied upon by so many residents when going to the shops, visiting friends and family, or enjoying a day out. For visitors to the Essex Sunshine Coast, our car parks are often the first and last thing they see and we know that first and lasting impressions count to encourage return trips. My thanks go to the Parking Services team for their hard work, and also to the British Parking Association for their kind comments during the assessment process.”

Ian Wilson, BPA Area Manager added: “Tendering District Council has been a proud supporter of the Safer Parking Scheme for almost 20 years as Elm Grove & Agate Road Car Park was first accredited in 2004. The team are always passionate about the work they do and demonstrates a true commitment to the safety and security of their customers. Congratulations on all your hard work and your continued commitment to achieving Park Mark standards.”
